How to Order a Custom Aluminium Boat: Your Complete Payment Stage Guide

Ordering a custom-built aluminium cabin cruiser is one of the most exciting purchases you'll ever make — but it can also feel daunting if you've never done it before. At ARK Boat Sales, we've designed a transparent, stage-by-stage payment process that protects you at every step and keeps the build moving forward with confidence.

Here's exactly how it works.

Why Stage Payments?

Custom boats aren't bought off a shelf. Your ARK Defender 620 is built to your exact specification — your choice of engine, wrap colour, electronics, and accessories. That means materials are ordered, fabricators are scheduled, and production slots are allocated specifically for you.

Stage payments align your financial commitment with the build milestones. You only pay more as real, verifiable progress is made on your vessel. It's fair, transparent, and industry-standard for quality custom builds.

Stage 1 — Holding Deposit: $1,000 AUD (Refundable)

This is where your journey begins. A $1,000 AUD refundable holding deposit does three things:

  • ✅ Locks in your current drive-away price (no price increases after this point)
  • ✅ Secures your position in the production queue
  • ✅ Books your private sea trial appointment at our Sydney harbour facility

This deposit is fully refundable if you change your mind before signing the formal build agreement. There's no risk — it simply reserves your spot while we finalise your configuration together.

When to pay: Online, immediately after confirming your configuration with our team.

Stage 2 — Build Deposit: 20–30% of Total Price

Once you're happy with your full specification and have signed the build agreement, a build deposit of 20–30% of the total drive-away price is required to commence production.

This payment triggers:

  • 🔧 Material procurement (aluminium plate, engine order, electronics)
  • 🔧 Formal scheduling with our fabrication team
  • 🔧 Your personalised build timeline with estimated completion date

When to pay: Within 7 days of signing the build agreement.

Stage 3 — Progress Payment: 40–50% at Hull Completion

When your hull is fully fabricated and welded — a major milestone — a progress payment of 40–50% of the total price is due. At this stage, we'll send you photos if you wish.

This payment covers:

  • ⚙️ Engine installation and rigging
  • ⚙️ Electrical systems and electronics fitout
  • ⚙️ Interior fitout, upholstery, and wrap application

When to pay: Upon photographic confirmation of hull completion.

Stage 4 — Balance Payment: Remaining Amount Before Delivery

The final balance is due once your boat has passed our quality inspection and is ready for delivery or collection. At this point, your vessel is complete, sea-trialled, and registered.

Before you pay the balance, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • 🚢 Complete your sea trial on Sydney Harbour
  • 🚢 Inspect the finished vessel in full
  • 🚢 Receive your handover pack (manuals, warranty documents, registration papers)

When to pay: After your sea trial sign-off, before delivery or collection.

Finance Options Available

Don't want to pay in stages from your own pocket? We work with marine finance specialists who can structure a boat loan that covers the full build cost, with repayments beginning after delivery. Ask our team about finance options when you enquire.

Trade-Ins Welcome

If you have an existing vessel to trade in, we can assess its value and apply it against your build cost — reducing the amount you need to pay at each stage. Contact us to arrange a trade-in appraisal.
